I just finished a two-year business diploma, along with a securities trading certificate. Anyways I am looking to go into web design now.

I am wanting to have something that I can use for myself for sites I am running, plus something tangible for an employer(if I went that route).

There are many programs that are around.

    DBA/Developer
    Web Design and Multimedia
    Web Server Administrator
    Java
    Network Professional
    ...lots more

What do some of you recommend? None of these are really offered where I am so I would probaly have to move(not a problem) I am just extremely interested in Internet Design and the E-Commerce industry and wondering if any of you are taking any courses or can recommend a field.

    Thanks

    I'd go with:

    Web Server Administrator
    Java
    ASP
    SQL

    UK people -

Has anyone noticed the growing number of degree courses offered in Internet Design / Computing and Internet etc?

I'm going onto the second year of one in September, is anyone on one or done one and can let me know if it's any good?

in my experience the program that has the most to do with our industry would be an Information Technology program, not a computer science program.

But the contents of the IT program often vary from place to place.

I can recomend the computing degrees at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, they are in touch with what is happening in the world around us e.g. Some of the units are web based systems, relational databases, business and the professional environment etc.

Not only does the University of Central Lancashire
    http://www.uclan.ac.uk
Offer a degree in web design, but we also offer a very highly regarded Masters degree in multimedia. I teach on it and it is aimed at non-computign graduates to help them make the transformation into multimedia. personally, I teach HTML, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash and Director. They also do a lot of theory such as planning, designing etc. options available include E-Comemrce/Java/Databases/Software Tools. An emphasis is also placed on project management, an important aspect to any multimedia project.

    Nicky,

What are the differences between Golive and Dreamweaver? I've seen people recommend both as the best.
