I don't think you can advertise your site 'too much' through social media, as it's a roofless sky so to speak. There should be no limitations as to what you can do with social media to expose your site. A good idea is just to buy some coupons and advertise on Facebook, this way you can get a sense of how social media works for you and how people react to your ads. Don't spend too much money though. Ask pages to share your content in return for a backlink and so fourth, so you build up a relationship with like minded people.

    Ayssabehrend,

I think this question is sort of subjective and dependent upon your own situation. I think a lot of businesses can engage prospects through social media and successfully convert those people into customers however it isn’t for every business. Further, I think some businesses jump on the social media band wagon because it’s the latest thing and they don’t really stop to think about if their customers are really present on networks like Facebook, LinkedIn or Google Plus or twitter or wherever.

I think without a clear strategy about what a business will try to accomplish by using social media, they are bound to fail or at least find it to be a waste of time when (if they had a plan) they could have seen something positive come out of it.

One thing is for sure. Many millions of people are now using these platforms to communicate on a daily basis. For some, it has become a primary means of communication for extended friends and family. It should be the goal of businesses to be present in the forums that their target audiences use to entertain and communicate with one another. That used to be television, radio, and appropritate public venus and still is to a large extent. Now, however people are using social media for these purposes and it only makes sense that businesses should be present in these arenas in order to develop a relationship with their customers.

    Best,
    Shawn

YES! This is one way to promote your business as most people can access the internet. Also, it's free advertising compared to getting services from advertising companies. However, it should depend on the type of business you have and the clients you target. Most in your social media circle would be friends and the like. You have to reach out for more people, specifically those you are targeting. Sometimes, they're not fond of using fb or twitter, and the way to really attract them is to get to them directly. Nevertheless, advertising via social network can be big. It's convenient compared to traditional advertising.

Yes, social media is beneficial to promote online business. Whether you own a small business or big business but if you haven’t brought it in social media craze then it is a flop. Silence is no longer an option. People are online talking about your business. If you don’t engage in the conversation, you risk losing your customers. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn.

Do you think social media works as a marketing tool? I haven't seen any evidence of this. Granted, platforms like Twitter are useful for things like CRM, support, etc.

Yes, but I reckon most of those are just socialising. Promoting your business on SN sites gets talked about a hell of a lot but has anyone got proof that it works and what was done (and not done) to make it work?

Absolutely right. One person sitting on desk searching and doing personal task like chating or conversation on social media and can be a potential buyer for one's product and services that he requires.

Social media network is a powerful strategy to promote any business products or services. Social networking allows us to reach out to potential customers without spending exorbitant amounts of money on advertising while staying in touch with current customers. Having a presence on a popular social network suggests to people that our business is on the cutting edge or at least is able to keep up with the changing times.

Social media may not grant you direct sales but its overall benefits cannot be underestimated. Through social media, a business can create a community of engaged and loyal followers around it. Using platforms such as Facebook or Twitter gives you the opportunity to interact with your customers, speak to them on a personal level, thereby building a relationship with them. If your customers value and trust your brand, it is only natural that they will recommend you to their friends and families. That is how social media should be used in a business, and there can never be too much interaction with your followers.

Promoting through social media can work very good if you spend enough time on it. Don't buy followers, they are most likely not your target. Post interesting content and every now and then a very good special.

You need to approach it like more as engagement vs advertising. You can get some real feedback here from these people. they're real people, and usually have no problem being 100% honest. Social media can be invaluable, AND FREE.

There's nothing wrong with using social media sites on promoting your online business or any business at all. We have to take advantage of the new technology nowadays. The only thing about it is you have to make it effective. You can't just keep on advertising and posting links, pics, etc on your Fb page. You need to make sure that it's going to catch attention.

Even i feel that promoting business through social media is much beneficial. Only thing you have to keep in mind is that your posts have some creative or intellectual effects which would attract anyone's eye and he/she shares your post with everyone.

Social media advertisement only works if you are trying to make brand name or your product is general.

If you are looking to sale something on social media, I think, it is not possible or you will not get good response. Its true that social media will help you to develop a brand name but it is not taking good part in sale. People always want secure and easy way to buy things. So social Media is not helpful here because here is lot of fake profiles. That is major reason, people don't trust on it.
