    Question Stock Photography Sources?

    Hello everyone,

Perhaps you can help me with one wall I've been hitting in a lot of my design. Stock Photography, I can't seem to find a good source of it anywhere... most of the big companies are charging a fortune for their work and the free stock photography sites are under such restrictive license that they can't be used. For example, I can't have the author's name and URL on every part of a site's interface that uses the image. My question is where do you get your stock photography? I'm perfectly willing to pay, but I refuse to buy pictures individually (unless they are sub-$5), nor will I pay $600 for a collection. I feel those prices are completely exorbitant and there has to be a better alternative.

    Thank you for your time,

Try Istockphoto.com It's where I go for my stock photo needs. At 50 cents an image, it's a steal.

Actually, I saw that post right after I made this one. I must say I'm very impressed at the sources in there... I found some great free photography and iStockPhoto also seems great, 50c is a price I'm will to pay and it makes it much more viable.

My problem in the past was sites that charge $20+ per work. It's not a very high price, but at the same time designs change a lot... what happens when I'm half-way into the project and realise I no longer want to use that image in the final product? At 50c a piece, it's no loss, I simply file it away for a later use.

Also, I know a lot of sites offer fair-quality previews, but most are watermarked... I don't know about other designers, but for me, a watermarked image completely spoils the preview effect of it in use.

My favorite source so far is gettyimages.com. Loads of pics are there. Its not free though, actually its more on the expensive side but still a great resource.
