    how to make mp3's downloadable?

okay..i run a website for a band and they want to put an mp3 of one of their songs on their site for people to download...not stream...download...so i put the file on the site and when you click on the link to download it it just opens up windows media player and tries to play it...the link is just linked straight to the mp3 file...is there a way to link to it so that it starts downloading like any regular file?

Zip it up. That will invoke the "save as" dialog window.

I second the tidal wave motion.
Besides, zip it well enough and people won't have to wait half as long to d/l it! Especially all those 56k-ers out there.

Ya, dsl/cable rules of course... but you're mistaken... there are a lot of "56krs" out there. It's the current majority.

you could just put instructions on the page as to how to go about downloading the file (PC: right click - save target as. Mac: option click - save target as) This gives the user the option to stream or download and you dont have to zip the file.
