problem converting to text to outlines

I have a file created in Indesign and exported as an eps. When opening the file in Illustrator and converting the text to outlines, it changed a couple, but not all font characters to some weird unicode symbol.
The characters that were changed are "fi". Could this have something to do with the font used (trebuchet)? Or is it some setting in Illustrator that I dont know about?

Don't really know much about Indesign, still in love with Quark

One suggestion though, is the 'fi' 2 seperate characters in Indesign or a ligature . I'm thinking that it's a ligature and the new font your choosing has no replacement for it. Trebuchet, isn't that a system font?

Thanks Philm, I was not aware that I had a couple of text boxes with ligatures enabled. In fact, until your post, I didnt even know what a ligature was

I think the easy way to tell if the font is to globally change it and see if the problem goes away. I can't see it being a setting.

Ligautures will get ya like that. You can change the setting in InDesign. Or just replace the characters in Illustrator and then convert to outlines. Assuming you love typesetting..
