Provided you have the skills to write an excellent book, you will be able to get SP to publish it for you and do the marketing for a percentage of the profits. (or so I think )

Send an email to SitePoint Book Support for more info.

All our books are printed by a company called WhiteHallPrinting.... When you finish writing your book you'll also have to invest $800+ to have it professional proofread and you'll need a cover designed plus you'll need to deliver the final documents to WhiteHall in PDF format - which means you might need Adobe Acrobat.

Well if your looking to do it on the cheap then CafePress are planning on starting publishing services - can't speak for the quality etc, but as it's CafePress it won't cost you a penny.

Take a look at this page: http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/books.aspx

Pricy? Not in the least. That's cheap compared to the actual total cost of putting out a book. Printing costs are not cheap by any means, you then have a graphic artist do do your cover for you, that will cost you as much or more than hiring a proofreader.

Working in a design firm, I spent 6 months+ doing design and layout for 10 books. The cost for that was far more than $800. My sallary alone, not factoring in what we billied the client for, was over $10,000 dollars Canadian.
