forgot MySql pswd, no PID file found

I have forgotten my Mysqladmin password and can't get in. I looked for help in Kevin Yank's book and the manual that came with MySql. I have no pid file in any of my mysql directories.
thanks for any help you can give.

Make a backup of your databases (the actual files that is), and reinstall MySQL. That's the quickest solution I can come up with right now. Maybe someone else knows a better solution?

Yeah what platform are you running mysql on? You can restart the mysql daemon with skip privileges, change your password and then restart it again. Can you confirm what platform then i can show the exact command.
