Has anyone heard anything about the "Freedomship"? Some people at work were discussing it and it caught my interest. It is basicaly going to be a floating city. They claim that it will almost be a mile long and 750 feet wide.
You can see it at http://www.freedomship.com .

Yeah, an interesting idea, however, their website doesn't make to believe that they're serious! I don't know!

As far as I know its real. I guess there has been an article in Popular Science and it's been mentioned on the Discovery channel. Pretty weird though. Did anyone happen to check out the prices of a home on the ship? I think one was 100' x 100' and was going for $800,000.

Looks pretty goofy to me.
There will be no sewage treatment plant and no sewage to spill. Freedom Ship will use incinerator toilets. They will be cleaned once each six months and the ashes put in the flower beds.Jim Lewis

Wow. Sounds like a serious risk factor there...

its real, but there is a smaller ship, which already has funding and will be built soon, however freedom ship will be diffrent, first problem is to make it float, look at the design, i dought it will survive a storm, and evacuating people are a big problem. The rules are you need to get everyone off the ship in 30 min. Also who would like to live there with an airport on your roof? The smaller ship which will also have apartments however i think is a good idea.

Several interesting points:
+ Imagine a bad pilot, land inside the building instead of the roof!?!
+ Their contact email addresses are really funny, all kinds, Juno, Hotmail,...
+ They have an intention to go around the world!? That's extremely risky! I thought they would find a peaceful bay and anchor the ship, but these guys are different.
There are a lot more to discuss about this interesting idea (I like the idea!)
added: to have cable TV/Internet, they need a really good wireless system could work from anywhere (satellites will do), and also high bandwidth (need a backbone connection!)

I imagine the first one, did you ever see those ww2 films where the plain misses and hits the control tower.
Imaging triying to land in a storm
Imagine the noice of an airport 4 floors over your head.
Will the ship survive a storm??
Dont know about the contact email stuff, if thats true, it is funny.
