    It can be established via CSS. Basically you just add a STYLE tag and you can define for example background color with it. There are few ways to do it, first one is rather simple:

    <input type="text" name="ii" value="" size="10" style="background: #CCC">
    Notice the highlighted part. Or, if the page has a lot of things you want to change, you could consider adding following between <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags:

    <style type="text/css">
    .textinput { background: #CCC }
    </style>
    and then adding class="textinput" as a attribute to the input tag.
