i would presume, if other adobe products like illustrator are anything to go by, that it would be possible from Indesign 2.0 to save a file specifically as a version 1.5 or version 1.0....but don't take my word for it, as i couldn't find anything specific at the adobe support knowledgebase...
You should *definitely* upgrade. 2.0.2 is the current version for Mac. It is a significant improvement over 1.5. 2.0 resolved many print output issues that were hamstringing printers and prepress folk from supporting InDesign.
More and more printers are supporting InDesign now and the number will only increase. It is a great application on many levels.
