I just read the backup section of Kevin Yank's PHP/MySQL book. But I am somewhat confused. He says that an update log is created every time the logs are flushed. I don't understand. Shouldn't an update log be created whenever the database is updated? I added the log-update=/path/for/logs line under mysqld line in my.cnf and restarted the MySQL server and then added some data to the DB, but there is still no update log in the update log folder. I would like to set this up so I can have it make a snapshot backup once a week but keep update logs in b/w so I can adequately backup my DB...
