Depends what kind you want. Pay-per-lead? Pay-per-sale? Pay-per-click? And also what genre your site is.

I would recommend CJ.com as a good starting point.

    Actually James,
I'd say it all depends on your audience. If you run a book review site you'll most likely make a million from Amazon but not a cent from uhm something else

I'd say that in order for them to be worth the effort you'll have to have a high traffic site (a few hundred k).

There are a ton of these programs available. One I've used for some time and can recommend with a clean slate is http://befree.com/

As said elsewhere, a great deal has to do with astute choices of ads.

Well, CJ is definitely a reliable and well-known one, so you don't have to worry about that.

I think Commission Junction, CJ.Com becuase they have so many programs and merchants to choose from and it's a good variety. That way all most any site can have products which go along with the site and so they have better results.

There are several other ones, but they're not good like the three mentioned before. Those I mention: clicktrade.com, plugingo.com, clickxchange.com
    Those I recommend:

Some more information can be found at my site:
http://www.guideclick.com, click on Affiliate Networks section

    Hope these help!

Another one I've used with much success is http://www.ClickBank.com

Their front end ain't fancy -- but they're scrupulously honest, pay every two weeks, send instant e-mail notices on every sale, and have superb support. The back end is efficient, clean, and fast.

Many of the payouts on http://www.ClickBank.com are far more attractive than what you'll find elsewhere, as well. (For instance, we pay 25% of sale in our own affiliate programs.)

As a merchant, we use http://www.ClickBank.com as well, partly because they offer an instant, automatic means of setting up our own affiliate program -- and ClickBank.com directly manages all of the accounting and pay-out for it.

Anyone interested in it can check it out at http://www.codebrain.com/nova/affiliates
