{am}™ site - textured bgs
http://www.aaronmartone.com/alt/am_prototype.jpg
That's what my site is gonna look like, and I think it's gonna ALL be flash. But I just thought of a problem. How does Flash MX handle textured backgrounds? For HTML you just crop the smallest tileable image and it auto repeats that for the entire page, but Flash wont do that.
So I have to make a graphic the size of the movie? If so, ouch.

what you can do is import the tile, break up the bitmap and then stretch the shape by placing your cursor on the edge of it, i believe this tiles the bitmap (NOTE: dont use the resize handlers as these will stretch the bitmap). if you need further explanation let me know...

Yeah, I'm gonna need further information. I don't know how I can do what you described without stretching the image itself.
I'm suprised that Flash didn't provide a method for this (other than maually placing a repeat graphic via coordinates)
And thanks for the comment on the site design.

ok... i'll see if i can explain this better... once you've broken the image apart, and it is selectable like a normal shape (i.e. when you click on it, it gets covered in white dots), then when you place your cursor right on the edge of the picture, then a little arc will appear next to your cursor. if you click and drag, you will be able to extend the image and it will tile. hopefully this is a better explanation.

Im still not understanding. "Breaking the image apart" Do you mean you want me to cut the graphic's bg out and make the single time (it's 8x6). Then import that to Flash and what?, trace it?

That worked perfectly Golgotha, I guess I'm very methodical in my thinking. Thanks to all for the help. I gotta read up on what that subselection tool is used for!

Ok, question here, using the subselection tool I've noticed that I don't get much control on stretching the image and holding SHIFT or CTRL or something to keep the edges straight. I also dont get any information in my INFO panel about the size of the object, its properties or what have you.
Does anyone know of ways around this?
