    Stock Photo purchases

    Hi All,

I'm going to have to purchase some stock photography from FotoSearch.com in the very near future for a client site. My question is, if I buy the lower resolution (which is 72 dpi, 3MB, 9" x 12"), will that still be a pretty high quality? I need them to be high quality images. I'll end up resizing them down to 300px x 300px or smaller. (The low res images are around $70/ea. whereas the high res are $190!!!! Is that outrageous or what?)

    Thx.

72 dpi would only be for web use, not any sort of printing.

It's only intended for web use, and yes that's $190 for a single image. (300 dpi, I think, but maybe 600. There's a higher quality one, but I didn't even look at the price on that.)

72 dpi is the highest quality you are going to need for web use.

Stock companies don't pre-optimise them for the web, so they are high quality.

no prob. btw... I think corbis.com has web quality stock photos at around $30. Most of the stock companies Ive seen are a lot cheaper than $70.

    thinkstock.com is nice, as well.

Thanks for the tips. We put together the mock-ups using stuff from FotoSearch, so unless we can find the same images, we'll be forced to shell out the $70. The client is paying for it anyway, and we're still well below our maximum stock photography budget.
