Easiest way, if you are using photoshop (other graphics programs will have something similar), is to create a new layer with the text/object you want to be the mark on that layer. Then reduce the layers opacity to 10-30% (whatever is best for the image).

My process is similar to what steelsun said, but I would said the blend mode of the text layer to multiply (or the best fit).

so you're really looking for an automated solution involving something like PHP and GDLib ? In that case, I'd suggest posting to the PHP forum http://www.sitepointforums.com/forum...php?forumid=34

Yes, as Redux said, an automatic watermark is a whole nother animal. check out the forums he mentioned.

You might also want to contact istockphoto.com, they have a method like that in place for their system. I believe it's an addon.

Did you find a "watermarking image script" to automatically watermark images when uploaded? I'd love to know where to get one, thanks

For anyone else that just wants to watermark individual images, I'm using Picture Shark, http://www.picture-shark.com It's a free program that can add a watermark to a single image, or a whole directory of images at one time. You can make your mark as transparent as you wish, it's a very easy program to use.
