Oh, just to let you know, the board here now has [ google ] tags. You can wrap search terms in those atgs and save yourself from having to cut-n-paste the ling.

i am looking for a program where like visual source safe - yes google is good - but forums are better as they offer opinions on what has been used by others, what works and what doesn't.

Again, forgive me my ignorance, but the VISUAL source (as in what will be output to the browser) simply put: Can't be protected, there is ALWAYS a way to get the source, believe you me, and it is OH SO easy as well.

If we are talking about protecting the visual source of your php files, well than i think google is the only valid option.

What works and what doesn't, well if you are serious about what works, take a look at either the ZEND encoder or ioncube (google would have told you the same!).

    Have a nice day!

Just wondering, how does CVS protect the files? I didn't know that it did that in the first place.

nah i think everyone has misunderstood my question - i am looking for a program which managing a project. i am others (in another country working on a project at the same time) - i dont want to make updates and upload the files to the server - to then find out, someone else has done something else to the same file and uploaded over mine. i remeber using a program called visual source safe - my question is there an open source "check in / check out" php application available anywhere?

    thanks tim.

i just tried to sign up with cvs - but it wouldn't allow me to register for a proprietory project (ie not an gnu license) - how can i do this, as its a private project for a client.

Are you sure you're using CVS properly?

Also, I know that Dreamweaver has a check in/check out feature - if you use or have that, then you could check that out.
