    Smooth Curves

    Hi,

I wanted to ask if there was a way to create seamless, smooth calligraphy-like curves in Illustrator or Photoshop other than manually drawing with the pen tool. Whenever I try to create a curve that is thick on one end and thin at the other (like a ribbon) it always looks crooked and not "professional". Is there a special command that professional designers use to create curved designs? This is an example of what I mean: http://www.avoncompany.com/women/avo.../abcc_logo.gif.

    Thanks!

the most important thing is use as few nodes as possible. the more nodes, the harder it is to render smooth curves. no magic buttons, just practice. in the example, i'd try to do that with around 8 nodes. but really, just create one line, dupe it, move it over, etc and then join it together.

A nice little trick I learned in an Illustrator class once is sometimes you can get great results ripping apart a letterform.

For example, the shape you linked to can probably be achieved fairly easily by transforming and removing points from a large script-font ampersand (after converting to outline, of course.)

Chuckie, that's like telling someone to read the dictionary to find out how to spell a word.

Besides that, it's hardly kosher to send members somewhere else, just because you can't or don't want to answer the question.
