Should I use PHPnuke or postnuke???

Initially I wanted to learn how to create a CMS from scratch but now I've finally decided to use one of these two php CMS engines.

I am unclear as to whether or not one has any benefits over the other for beginners. Without turning this into a "which one is better" debate, I would like to hear different points of view to help me decide on one or the other.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

From what I know, PostNuke is a rewrite of PHPNuke, with a lot of the security problems fixed.

That alone, would make me use it instead.

PostNuke hands down. PHPNuke sites tend to get hacked moreso than PostNuke.

Cool, I wasn't aware phpnuke has such security flaws, the main reason i was considering it is because it appears to have more modules than postnuke. I found the post nuke install mucheasier and intuitive, I am also using autotheme 1.0(for postnuke) which is user freindly.

I guess the next thing I should inquire about is does anyone know where I can find good postnuke modules for instant chat, forums, galleries etc...

Stupid question perhaps...but have you looked at the postnuke website?
Search the forums at Postnuke as well, and Google seearches will also turn up lots of good stuff.

BTW...phpBB seems to be the most polular foum that you can integrate with your PN database.

P.S. Have you read the Post Nuke "getting started guide" yet?
