    Development Process and Time Consumption

Hello everyone I have a general question on time. I would like to know from fellow web developers how long it would take them to code a basic 5 page website utilizing HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery. I am trying to get a feel on how fast I am and how I can speed up my development process.

I have included jpegs of 3 pages; the other two are basically the same with a few content changes.

    Thanks

It depends if you use a CMS, if you have to customize that CMS or if you're doing everything from scratch.

With WP... between 2 hours and a week (depending how much I want to complicate my life with the photo gallery). Full custom (no CMS for the user, just the page)... between 1 days and a week, probably.

Of course, I'm considering minimum fucntionality here... even when the layout is simple, you can take as long as you like depending on the fuctionality that you want to add.
Before asking, do a search... if you don't find the answer, then ask

    Gleeren65,

I think I would need some more information to give you an accurate answer but if we are talking a website that just has images, some menus, a basic contact form and 3-400 words of content for every page, I would say it would take about 8 hours with a CMS. From scratch, probably about double that.

The one thing that is a huge variable is images and content. Are you writing all the content or is someone providing it? Are you making your own images, using stock images or is someone providing them? In the end, coding and putting together a CMS is the less time consuming part. The area where a tone of time is eaten up is content. The above estimates would be if all images and content were provided ready to go.

Also, its hard to say how much time it would take without knowing exactly what the site is supposed to do. Google has one page for its search engine but it is estimated that over 1000 person hours have been put into its algorithm. If you are talking 5 static pages that don’t do anything but display images and text, that is quick. If you are talking about a website that processes payments, allows for user generated content, etc, then time estimtes go up regardless of how many pages there are.

    Best,

    Shawn
