Question $get array and browser address bar

Can someone explain the value of using the get array for submitting a query string via the browser address bar? Why would you want to do this?
A user simply uses a form's input fields he wouldn't submit inputs into an address bar.

    Any help appreciated.

that page in itself uses the GET array

I would use the get array for simple non-secure stuff like page navigation or site searches. This is so because when a user clicks on a link after searching or navigating and hits the back button, you'll get that ugly error message that says data has been lost, do you want to repost data..etc. I just do GET to avoid that inconvenience.
