    Tracking when a user opens an email?

    I want to write an web mailing list application that will track and record when the subscriber:

    1. opens the email
    2. clicks through a URL in the email

    Any ideas how this can be done?

    yeah, make a 1x1 <img src="http://webserver/image.asp">

    and in that asp, you put a counter

    if you send individual emails, you can generate the html like
    <img src="http://webserver/image.asp?id=4546456564">

    then request the id and you know exactly when each user has viewed the mail.

    as for the click in the link, you must generate a link like

    <a href="http://webserver/redirect.asp?id=45645645&url=hotmail.com">link</a>

    then in that redirect asp you can do pretty much you want and at the end : response.redirect(request("url"))
