Question good text editor?! - for Windows

    Hi,
I'm looking for a good text editor for windows, compareble to Mac supported BBEdit.
I need syntaxcoloring for HTML and PHP (and maybe Perl, JScript).

    Thanks
    Flözen

    Hi,

Not sure about BBEdit as I have never used it, but I am a big fan of EditPlus which has syntax highlighting etc and downloadable modules for most scripting languages.

When I was on Windows, I liked HTML Kit from chami.com -- syntax highlighting and more. Check some of the different plug-ins, it's very flexible and $free (or it was last time I downloaded it).

http://www.textpad.com/ is what I use. It's beautiful, and you can download whatever syntax highlighting you need (as well as clip libraries, dictionaries and all sorts of stuff)

    EditPlus isn't free though...

I use EditPlus for coding and it is the best, but for $30.

I use editplus, I don't like how the HTML templates it throws out when you open a new HTML page isn't xhtml compliant, but I suppose I have an older version so....

I use NoteTab Pro from www.notetab.com
It is developed by Fookes Software
I paid for the full version.
I like it because it has html editing, allows you to do mass search and replace of as many files as you have opened at the time.

I like to use 1st page 2000 for most of my coding. http://www.evrsoft.com/ It has the numbers for the lines, is completly free, and has a few basic scripts with it. It does color code your code for you. It is free so that is what you get. Enjoy!

I like HTML-Kit for a simple text editor. Completely free, simple, light, and supports quite a few syntaxes.

Winsyntax - is the best choice!

http://www.winsyntax.com/ - Download of the Week on Sitepoint Tribune: Arisesoft Winsyntax is a small PHP-code editor with a fast syntax-highlighting engine and context help for PHP keywords. It’s extremely quick and clean, and it has no useless features. Major functions include context sensitive help for any PHP Keyword, a code explorer which has a tree of classes, variables and functions, and highlighting of syntax.

    Best regards, AKA.

This doesn't have syntax coloring, but I love it as a text editor. Noted from iamcal.com ----> http://software.iamcal.com/

<edit>It has bugs, but I've never encountered them or had any problems with it what so ever.</edit>

HTML-Kit is hardly light, at least from my experience using a recent version (about 2 months ago). It does take a while to 'startup'.

    Anyway, I like EditPlus 2.

Editplus is the best one I think.

Also it's completly customizable you can customize syntax settings, templates or you can download new files from edit plus++ web site.
