transparent graphics

hi all,
how can i convert a non-transparent photo with a rather white background to a transparent photo... using fireworks 4.

Could you, if you ever know some, tell me any sites where i could get transparent pictures or photos... ( gifs etc... )

Ok, I'm not that familiar with fireworks so forgive me if I'm off the mark.

When you say "transparent photo" do you mean you want the white background areas to be transparent? If so, use the magic wand tool, select the white background areas then hit delete. The areas which have been deleted should be transparent. Export as a GIF and load the image in a browser.
