Creating an editable database catlaog with unlimited categories and subcategories

Does anybody know how I could go about implementing a database backend and administration front end for creating a catalog with unlimited categories and subcategories similar to this:

    Cheers.

Take a look at this page:

    http://www.totada.com/category/

Even though the author is showing you how to use categories and sub-categories to fill a javascript navigation tree, ignore that part and just focus on the way he works with the hierarchy.

This won't teach you how to create an entire front-end or back-end, but managing the hierarchies is probably the hardest part.

Using/writing an XML backend would let you work with unlimited levels of categorization very easily...
