Installing msql

I've downloaded Sql and installed it. However, when using the command prompt to see if everything is working I received this message: "can't connect to Msql server on 'local host'<100061>'
Check that Msqld is running on local host and that the port is 3306"
I don't have a clue as to what to do. Can anyone help?

Thank you very much for this script. It was working fine, I could deal with my databases at my heart content (!) but after a day of working perfectly fine when I tried to access mysql I have the same message as the first time telling me that the connection to the local host failed. Has anyone any idea as to what to do?
