drop down menu problem

I am a newb at flash. I have a button. When the mouse goes over the button a section pops up under it. However, when the mouse moves to the section the section disappears due to the mouseover. How can I get it to stay until the mouse goes off the button and section?

have you tried making your hit area large enough to cover the whole menu? or you can put a stop on that frame and until they click another optione the menu will stay open.

hmmm how do you make a hit target? I guess I just use the object dimensions.

ok... this should be the easiest thing for you to do

frame 1 - have the menu closed
when they rollover the button tell your timeline to go to frame 2 and stop
frame 2 - have your menu open
then after they select an option have them go to frame 3 or 4 or whatever part of the timeline that the particular option is on.

hit area - double click your button -- you will have 4 stages the last one is hit area - you can adjust this (draw a box over it or whatever) anything on that part of the button timeline is invisible in your main movie

Ok I have a button, under "over" I have my popup menu. Under the hit frame I have a box covering the popup menu. However, when I run the flash and put my mouse of the menu, it flickers very badly. If I rest my mouse on the menu it will disappear, but if I move it, then the menu will begin to flicker very badly.

can you make a small file with just the menu in it and attach it for me ? how many frames do you have in your timeline - it sounds like the timeline is travelling but the menu is only open on a certain frame.

thats alright - ok - its never a good idea to throw that many things into one button - try nesting the button inside a movie clip - the only thing that you have to be sure of is that in your actions you always specify _root to direct it to the main timeline.

i made a little sample clip.

its also a pain to have a roll-over effect for menus that work the way you want yours to - because when you're rolling over it - it tells the button timeline to go back to the first frame and it keeps going back and forth - change this sample clip to rollover instead of on release and you will see what i mean

i hope this helps you out
