does anyone know of the legal position of putting film trailers on your site.

do you need the studios permission or can you just upload them.

    thanks

always get the studio's permission .... I have had many friends use a clip of a movie or even just a clip of a trailer and were contacted through email by lawyers to removed the content in 5 business days or a studio would press charges.

if it was just a clip then your friends were bullied. Fair Use allows for the use of small portions of copyrighted material without permission. For instance a line of a poem, a paragraph of a book, a clip of Homer saying "Doh!" that you hear all the time on the radio.

As to the original question though, you could post a few seconds from the trailer, but the whole thing would land you in hot water.
