I am not sure if I understand the question but if your question is how many times algorithm from Google changes than it is unpredictable. Whenever they think something can be improved they implement an update

Seo takes 2-3 months to take an effect and even more time for highly competitive keywords

What you mean is that when you do some seo on your site it will take 2 to 3 months? But why it is taking so long? Depends on keyword competition?

Last year, Google reported that they changed their algorithm more than 500 times.

How long SEO takes to provide results depends completely on the effort put into it and a little luck. If you create a couple of blog posts that go viral, you could see results in less than a week across the board. If you are entering a really competitive market, you could be looking at a 2 year battle (assuming you approach it the right way), some markets will prove to be nothing more than a huge waste of time because the people who have a head start are promoting their sites better than you will be coming into the game.

Just like everything else in life, it is all relative.

Depends what u do, depends on what keywords you optimize for - depends on what services/software you use - depends on techniques you use...
for some 6 months, others never, some 24 hrs, some 2 months...

e.g. for a blog post you can rank it in 24 hrs for very low competion keyword if blog already has some PR4.

Re: Search engines generally how often they change, SEO how long it takes effect?

Exactly, Nobody really knows about often they changes of search engine. and SEO takes time for effect because search engine generally depends on your optimization way , depends on keywords traffic, and what applications or techniques you use.

Sorry, but this is far too vague a question, and as you can see from the answers you've received, a simple search would have sufficed to answer the question. Please search (both the forums and via your favorite search engine), and if you've still got SPECIFIC questions, please feel free to repost.

    In the meantime, THREAD CLOSED.
