Could someone please review my site http://www.freejavahelp.com?

I put up a new layout within the last two weeks, and it is way different than the old one.

Any suggestions comments or feedback is helpful!

    Thanks!

    Jim

    hi

    first, the tech stuff. 98/2 ie5.5 sony17se 1024 x 768 True Color 24 bit s3 verge

left col needs to be more uniform with the rest of the headers. ie. the background for the tutorials should match the background for about us.

horizontal alignment for the bottom of the about us td and the eMail td is one pixtel off.

eMail login submit touches the bottom of the Password box. might want to drop it just a bit.

horizontal white above and below the search are different pixtel width.

the search submit touches the bottom of the match: box.

the horizontal lines above and below the freejavahelp e-zine are different width.

the submit box for the subscribe touches the bottom of the text box.

can you provide the same distance down for the background for the left, center and right cols background?

in advertise, increase the font size in the center col below the table.

got a smaller banner for uss to link to your site?

    summing up

all the things i mention are small. you have written a very nice layout.

    thanks for sharing

    edshuck

    Just a personal feeling:

    1. The color is too boring, I mean the grey. Maybe it is because a combination of too much text and the color. Just a feeling, hope you don't mind.

    2. Site News: Can the text be left justified?

    Jim,

I have a few suggestions. But first my stats: DSL, 17", 196Ram, NT, IE5, 800x600.

Overall I like the site. The colors are okay. I have two recommendations.

First - I personally think the "site news" portion on the main page is too long. May want to consider listing a few News Updates and provide a link to the rest.

Second - it's a little hard to see the links to the tutorials, articles, forums, applets. At least not as visible as the links on the top header (advertise, feedback, etc). May want to change that table color to something darker. What first caught my attention is the links on the top banner - not the links on the side banner.

Good luck & nice looking site.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies

I think you are probably right about the site news, i will make it shorter.

Also, thanks for the input about the links not sticking out enough! I really appreciate it!

    Thanks to everyone!

any more reviews are more than welcome

There are only 2 things that come to mind when I view your site. The first is your text banner is blue which does not fit in with your other colors. I personally like the colors you've chosen but you should have applied it to the blue banner as well. The other thing is the table on the left isn't consistent with your other tables. 1024x768, 16 bit color, and IE 5.5

    freejavahelp,
I like the consistent use of color and style; it seems to tie in with 'Java' and some Spanish coffee house imagery (just my opinion). I don't have time to go into a long review right now, however, I will probably give feedback from time to time since I am just strating to learn Java and have bookmarked your site.

(I edited your original post, I move the ? out of the URL)

    hi

i liked the initial layout of the site.. but as others have stated, the left columns should maybe look like the other boxes.

give it a more uniform feel.

not too sure about the colours.. i like the different shades, but maybe needs spicing up a bit with different colour headers

anyway.. colours are a personal opinion :]

    cheers
