    Menus as lists

Following on from this article - http://www.alistapart.com/stories/taminglists/ - can someone explain to me the benefits of marking up your menu links in a list?

Looks very usable with no styles applied?

Take a look at http://www.entertainingfood.com/ (which uses precisely the method in ala) in Opera, switch to "user mode"

Without any styling, the "list" nature of the, erm, list of links makes it stand out nicely as a central navigation point..

Ah I see, that's handy. Any benefit for screen readers?

    H, not quite...

the advantage is that the markup is semantically correct. a navigation bar is, in essence, a list of links. it makes sense, therefore, to use a list to structure it in code, giving more semantic "meaning" to it.

Yes it a structural and semantic idea and that is why the W3C are seriously considering the ‘Navigation List’ <nl> element which should provide an enhanced solution.

I've also implemented it on silverlining.ie
It makes the markup a whole lot cleaner and as mentioned above, semantic
