GZIP question...

Hiya guys...

I set up an Invisionboard, and it had GZIP activated by default.

When I tried a phpBB, it had GZIP disabled by default.

GZIP... What does it actually do? I've understood that it sort of simplifies the queries and makes less serverload. But are there any disadvantages by having it enabled?

GZip does not simplify any queries. What it does is compress output for faster page load times.

When you enable it (recommended) your bvandwidth usage will go down tremendously, but server load will increase slightly.
