    eclipse as a php-mysql IDE ?

    hello,
    i'd like to know if anyone as used the eclipse "universal" gui (from eclipse.org) with the phpeclipse pluggin ?

    It seems to have a bunch of useful features, being able to color-code, template-code, start and stop mysql and apache from the gui, run sql queries on the database etc.

    Combined with a ftp pluggin it would make a pretty neat "all-in-one" tool, but well that's on the paper that's why i'm asking if anyone has experienced with it.

    Thanks,
    Quentin

    Yep - there was a short discussion here you may want to continue;

    There are two PHP plugins for Eclipse I know of;

    http://eclipse-plugins.2y.net/eclips...ils.jsp?id=106

    http://eclipse-plugins.2y.net/eclips...ils.jsp?id=199

    I've yet to do anything but play with it (haven't used it for "real coding" so far) but looks real good.

    yea, I am interested in it for Linux development, I use Zend on my Windows box, but I have not had any luck getting Zend running on my Debian machine yet. I'll have to give this a try when I get home.

    Anyone have any performance notes about it?

    Eclipse performance is good - much better than most Java based GUIs because rather than using the AWT/Swing GUI libraries it uses IBM's SWT library which makes use of the platform dependent windowing library.

    The trade off is Eclipse may not be exactly the same on all OS's but it's certainly fast.

    I tried it not long ago and didn't like it at all. Most of the features that make it great for Java work simply don't work with PHP. And the syntax highlighting was buggy and often didn't work at all.

    anyone have suggestions on a decent linux IDE? The things I like best about Zend is the autocomplete works great when working with classes and I love that you can view the project and current document broken down into classes and functions on the left sidebar. I get tired of going back and forth trying to remember the order of the arguments I have to pass to a function.

    I am playing with quanta for now and I'll se how that goes.
