I somehow doubt that testing of 2 out of the 328947823 computers or that Dell has sold is enough to form a statistically valid conclusion.

Do I hate Dell? That depends..

When looking at the quality of the systems and support, no, I don't hate them. In fact, I think they're excellent.

When looking at customer service, DFS, and billing, I despise them. They appear to be quite disorganized in these departments sometimes especially with large orders.

I've reached the conclusion that they're wonderful for personal and small purchases, but difficult for large-scale purchases (specifically servers).

Darin, wait. April 9th Dell will be offering a coupon for use on their home systems.

The last time they did that it was for like $150 off a purchase of over $1000, so pretty nice.

That site posted reminds me of "Customers Suck"
http://www.customerssuck.com/

I work with three laptops, they make different sounds:

- Acer (very noise, sometimes like an airplane starting when the cooling system kicks in)
- Compaq (very quiet, the best)
- Dell (sounds like somebody is walking on gravel, a bit unpleasant for my ears).

Any other sounds from your laptop?

I don't hate Dell, but I can say positively that Dell is not perfect either. Dell's help desk cost me many many hours of time on the phone and it was extremely frustrating. Eventually, I wrote to the Better Business Bureau and Dell decided to stand behind their product after that.

I firmly believe I had that odd machine where something deep inside the guts was wrong. With that many parts, it happens. Sadly it took months for Dell to admit that and wasted a lot of my time and a lot of their time as well.

However, I will consider buying another Dell since I'm almost positive it was a freak occurence. But, if you do happen to get a lemon machine, hang in there -- they did make it right, it just took forever.

Well M.Johansson, the only difference between the two computers were the warranties. Same model, different warranties. Both were basically brand new, my dad was merely upgrading the operating systems on them (the company figured if they got the extended warranty on just a few, that it would reduce costs and they could order new parts for non-extended warranty machines assuming they're the extended machines and you get the picture), and he happened to run across that issue.
