    Hi,

    Seeing that age seems to be somewhat of a hot topic lately, I thought I would post the following which was posted by a Javascript City forum member (kc) at:
    http://www.javascriptcity.com/forums...?threadid=1287

    If you are curious, I'll be playing with a full deck by the end of the year and I also got 24 out of 25.

    ...Well here's a take off of how geeky are you. I know most of you are to young to remember any of this. But there's got to be others who are as old as Vinny and myself...[snip]...(got to go and find my teeth) By the way I got a 24.

    From the Kim Komando Newsletter:

    "How Much Do You Remember Quiz"!

    1 - Blackjack chewing gum
    2 - Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water
    3 - Candy cigarettes
    4 - Soda pop machines that dispensed bottles
    5 - Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes
    6 - Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers
    7 - Party telephone lines
    8 - Newsreels before the movie
    9 - P.F. Flyers
    10 - Butch wax
    11 - Telephone numbers with a word prefix (Liberty - 3866)
    12 - Peashooters
    13 - Howdy Doody
    14 - 45 RPM records
    15 - S&H Green Stamps
    16 - Hi-Fi's
    17 - Metal ice trays with levers
    18 - Mimeograph paper
    19 - Blue flashbulbs
    20 - Beanie and Cecil
    21 - Roller skate keys
    22 - Cork popguns
    23 - Drive-ins
    24 - Studebakers
    25 - Wash tub wringers

    And here's what it means:

    If you remembered 0-5: You're still young
    If you remembered 6-10: You are getting older
    If you remembered 11-15: Don't tell your age
    If you remembered 15-20: You are getting up there
    If you remembered 21-25: Congratulations! We hope to live as long as you have you!

    Peter - we both know we are old foggies here but I am with you on this one. I grew up in the middle of the Mediterranean (we didn't even have English speaking TV till I was about 14!), so I don't know half of them. I do know the wolf though .

    I got 13 and am almost 30...

    Numbers 1-3 are still being sold today in California.
    My parents used to own #4 and I am currently looking for a similar model for my garage.
    Fond memories of Drive-ins. My grandmother (Who turns 84 tomorrow) used to live across the street from one. My cousins and I used to sit on her roof and watch "silent" movies all summer long. We really loved it when they added FM stereo sound that allowed you to tune into the movie on your car radio. We used a small transistor radio for sound after that.

    I have heard of 45 RPM records (my parents have some) but I can't actually remember any of those. A 0 for me.

    PS: I am 15.

    I can remember:
    1 - Blackjack chewing gum
    2 - Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water
    3 - Candy cigarettes
    4 - Soda pop machines that dispensed bottles
    5 - Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes
    7 - Party telephone lines
    14 - 45 RPM records
    15 - S&H Green Stamps
    16 - Hi-Fi's
    17 - Metal ice trays with levers
    18 - Mimeograph paper
    21 - Roller skate keys
    22 - Cork popguns
    23 - Drive-ins

    That's 14, so I guess I'm not supposed to tell my age (34).

    Vincent,

    I don't know how accurate this thing is, but it sure was fun. Thanks for the great thread!

    Hi Y'all,

    James: it is accurate. The only one I missed was Butch wax(and it was a half-miss because I knew it had to do with hair, but a dog and shoes kept popping into my head). Besides, I used vasoline to make the DA (duck's a$$) and ****'s comb in my hair in the 50s

    Regarding the drive-in: I took it to mean a drive-in diner, like the one in American Graffitti (a great movie worthy of being rented), where waitresses came out and served you at your car -- Brooklyn never had any drive-in theaters, at least not in the past 50 years

    MJames, Abahta and Timothy: oops, a total of 3 between youse -- a definite sign of youth, vigor, curiosity, and snot running from the nose

    Wayne: you're about ten years too late. I had a Coke machine for years, but alas it went the way of all things.

    Etal: Don't worry soon enough you'll get to be an old fart, just like me -- God forbid!

    Pace

    I think we should add more stuff to the quiz such as:

    * Joe 90 (I lurrved that show)
    * Battlestar Galactica
    * Spectrums (ZX, 48k etc)
    * Secret Valley (Weird Australian Show about kids in a summer camp)- never missed an episode
    * The Beatles

    I got a 7, and I am almost 30 years old. Of course, I only remember Studebakers because my Dad still has a few of them. I remember coke machines that dispensed bottles because I pass one every day (they're the new plastic bottles, but they're still bottles. I do remember a couple of places that had older coke machines with the glass bottles, though.) I remember drive-ins. The one in my hometown was still very active until about ten years ago. I believe they still show movies from time to time. The local convenience store sold candy cigarettes when I was a kid. They may still for all I know.

    I vaguely remember S&H Greenstamps. The grocery store gave them out, and I remember going to the redemption store when I was about ten. Mimeograph paper was still in use at my schools until the late-80s. And I can remember metal ice trays with the levers because my aunts used ones that they've had forever until very recently.
