Unhappy Camino/Chimera users? Bad jpeg quality?

Can any other Camino/Chimera users tell me if they also get really bad jpeg rendering quality? The gradients look awful.
    (gifs and pngs seem fine)

I can't understand why in this day and age something as basic as jpeg rendering can be so incomplete (even in a beta)

Is it just my copy or what?

    TIA.

I'm still using the December build, and JPEG quality seems fine. Maybe they broke something in 0.7?

    Thanks for responding, anode.

It was the same for me in Chimera 0.6.0

I've done a simple install both times (drag/drop) so I dunno would could have gone wrong.

I'm not overly concerned if it's just my copy.

I was beginning to have doubts about using jpegs as I thought all Chimera/Camino users would get the bad rendering. Increasing the quality didn't seem to improve things at all (subtle gradients still became kinda posterized).
If it's just me then I can stop worrying on that account.

Still, it would be nice to find out what has gone wrong in my copies.

Can you link to a specific image? I'll compare Chimera to Omni and see if using Chimera has blinded me.

I tried messing around with the various settings available in PS's Save To Web (ICC Profile, Optimised, Progressive), but the banding remains pretty much the same.

Ahaa. It's down to my monitor.

I have it set to Thousands to save on video resources.
While this seemt to be enough for IE to represent smooth gradients, Chimera/Camino only seems to show the full, smooth detail in jpg when the monitor is set to Millions.

Daft and more than a little strange.

Would this be considered a bug?

Either way, that's a big ol' p.i.t.a nuisance.

    Eeep..that's hideous on thousands.

I don't think it would be a Chimera/Camino bug, probably Gecko. Did you search Bugzilla?

    It appears you're right.

Checked it alos in Moz and NN7 and the problem is present there too.

Never noticed it until I started using Chimera.

Hmmm, next stop Bugzilla I guess.

Thanks for the feedback, anode. I'll post any findings.
