This is a good time to avoid the TV - war as entertainment is gross. And then there are the talking heads blowing hot air and droning on hour after hour. I have better things to do . . . like head to bed and then out to the garden most of tomorrow.

I don't remember much of the first Gulf War, since I was only eight years old in 1991.

It's quite frightening. It's good that Saddam will finally be removed from power, but it must be scary as hell living living in the crossfire, hearing all the explosions.

Oh my. I do hope you're kidding?

This reminds me of a post I saw in another thread several weeks back. Something to the effect of "I'm for a peaceful solution, that is unless Saddam actually attacks US, then we'll just nuke Iraq!"

Novapages, I'm not sure if you've read the whole thread but Naramation wasn't kidding and has given reasons why, but then again, this is a public place and people can share their opinions how they see fit.

In regards to the general feeling in Australia, I personally am all for this but that's just me. There are lots of people with very divided opinions. Here is a link to a funny story that I'm not sure you would've seen in the US.

US Gov't is estimating 8-12K Iraqi civilian deaths will likely happen.

Still haven't provided a source for that...

"Securing oil wells will also be an SAS objective." (http://www.news.com.au/common/story...5E25777,00.html) oil is in the equasion.
Of course they are. In the gulf war Saddam used oil as a weapon and he's already started to do it again. Do you remember the oil fires of Kuwait? How the sky was pitch black even though it was the middle of day in the desert?

Anything that Saddam can easily use as a weapon will be secured by special forces, hopefully before he can use them. This includes Dams as well as oil fields.

The bottom line is that if we wanted more Iraqi oil than we currently already get we could have lifted the sanctions when France wanted to some years ago.

I didn't realise I needed to provide a link for fairly common knowledge stuff that's in dozens of articles. It'd be like me needing ot provide links to prove the US believes Iraq has WMD.

I also love how everything is so black and white for you. You know the entire motivations of multiple nations and exactly why they are doing what they are doing, why they didn't do it sooner, etc.

    It's great fun

Well I haven't read that estimate, so it isn't as common of knowledge as you think. So I'd appreciate it if you could provide the source.

Thank you, but just to clarify that estimate is from the Baghdad headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross, not the US Gov.

I'm not saying it's wrong, just that the source you've been attributing to it is incorrect.

So far, news say there was one casualtie (too good to be true). War is different now, technology has changed since "Desert Storm". Lest just hope this comes to an end soon, before they bring war to America.

Are you saying civilians aren't going to die? Does it really matter what the source is, what the numbers are, etc? 2K, 5K, 50K... Does it really matter? These are still people.

No offence to you or your family, but being personally involved doesn't automaticallymake you better informed. Choosing to be better informed makes you better informed.
Watching the doper baby liberal "reporters" on CNN doesn't make you better informed, either.

or they believe everything the media tells them.
If you think this war is about oil, then you are the one who obviously likes watching CNN.

Choosing to be better informed makes you better informed.
Imagine your best friend, or family member going to work in an ordinary building, and dying at the hands of some psycho anti-american socialist, and then we'll see what you have to say about this issue. You wouldn't just sit by and watch a whole bunch of "big-talkers" downplay our government because they think they can resolve this issue by hugging Sadaam and kissing his boo-boo to make it all better.

Did you see me say civilians aren't going to die?

I asked you to name your source because alot of times you'll toss our statistics that prove later to not be true.

I then pointed out that the numbers you were claiming as US Gov estimates were infact estimates provided by the Baghdad branch of the Red Cross.

How you confused that with me saying civilians won't die is beyond me.

Of course civilians will die. The thing is, in the long run, will less civilians die because Saddam will be out of power? That is a whole other argument though.

And what about all the people Sadaam has killed? Did you think of them? He's killed more kurds than what you've said, and those are still people, too. Or at least they were, until their lives were taken by that evildoer.

    Plus, that's an estimation. 8,000 to 12,000?

That's just a tad more than in Desert Storm. That's also less than WWI and WWII, and even Vietnam.

War is bad, I'm the first to admit it, but that's how humans solve things, that's how they've always solved them, it seems, not over coffee and biscuits.
