Not about oil? Sorry, but nobody can say for certain what this war is about, and certainly what it isn't about.

Basically the military spotted something immediate they needed to do tonight, and launched some fairly quick strikes:

IST 05:40 Immediately after US presidentís address, US warplanes attacked Iraqi Presidential Republic Guards units defending southern Baghdad

President Bush announces American and coalition forces are in early stages of military operation against selected targets to undermine Saddam Husseinís ability to wage war. Action to disarm Iraq has begun.
From Oval Office, he says: Only way to limit campaign is by concerted force. There will be no half-measures and nothing but victory accepted.
F117 stealth bombers and Tomahawk cruise missiles are taking part in first wave of aerial action against Baghdad and Tikrit

US government source announces American missile strike against Iraqi leaders Ė presumed to be attack on presidential palace in Tikrit. Sources in Washington announce "surgical attacks in Baghdad" against locations of regime leaders.

Air battle over Baghdad begins. Sirens, explosions and anti-aircraft fire meet first US cruise missiles landing on city and incoming bombers.
Earlier Wednesday night, fighter-bombers took off from USS Kitty Hawk Wednesday night for bombing missions over Iraq, after allied bombers began strafing Iraqi artillery across country. US long-range B-52 bombers stood armed and ready for takeoff on airstrips at British Royal Air Force base at Fairford, in Gloucestershire

Allied forces heading towards Umm Qasr were due to reach big base and town by Wednesday midnight.

Anyone who thinks this war is about oil is either ignorant or terribly misinformed.

This war is about taking an evil man who has killed countless people and getting him off of the throne, and liberating an oppressed people. It's about the principle of freedom, and how it needs to be applied around the world. And most of all, it's about the concept that prevention is the best medicine; Sadaam has weapons, and if he will kill his own people, he won't hesistate to kill some Americans. Hell, americans? He won't discriminate, he would happily kill anyone who wouldn't lick his feet. This war is about saving the common man from an untimely fate at the hands of a madman with weapons of mass destruction.

    Not oil.
That is what Bush want us to believe, true Hussein is a evil person who had kill his own people but the bottom line in to control the oil facilities in Irak (where Italia, France and China has important investments)

thats right, we dont want war; I mean, any who supports war really is saying that they wouldnt mind seeing their children, wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend, mother/father, everyone dead ! death is not an option. well, I do support thowing their continent into the sun, its just a pitty we cant do that. I say It'd be great if we can do what they did on the "hitchikers guide to the galaxy" (for thjose of you who have read it) : Put 'em all into a slo-time envolope, so that they cant do anything harmfull, but not harm then at the same time.

stymiee: As I said, nobody knows what this is or isn't about, unless of coures you can read Bush's mind. I didn't say it was about oil, but anyone who says it isn't a consideration (it's part of the official rebuilding plan after all) is, as you say "misinformed"... or something

I strongly disagree. Put it this way: Anyone who says this war is "about" anything is voicing their opinions, or they believe everything the media tells them.

    You seem like the latter.

the media, so far, has been nothign but a pain in the ***. my opinion about them now is that I dont believe there is a war, I dont care about it, I dont reguard anything they say as being full hearted untill its landing on by doorstep.

I know that one of the issues between America and the towel heads is the oil, other than that no one knows more than that its two people who are speaking in place of entire nations, none of who have had any input into the decisions made.

Try having a family member killed by terrorists and maybe you'll be better informed. You have no idea how much of a threat people like saddam are because it hasn't impacted your life (and don't tell me 9/11 impacted you and you believe oil is the root of this war). If your family was torn apart by a gas attack provided by saddam, you'd be the first in line to take him out.

No offence to you or your family, but being personally involved doesn't automaticallymake you better informed. Choosing to be better informed makes you better informed.

FYI, there's no doubt oil is a factor in this. But to believe it is a major factor is to overlook the obvious. In that region, oil is a factor in everything.

It is a camera in the middle of Baghdad. Any plane launches would most likely come from Airports which are not located in the middle of a large city. Not only that it looks like the same 2 seconds of video replayed over and over.
