for beginner stuff or what?
For actionscript, I recommend Macromedia Flash MX Actionscripting: Advanced Training from the source.
It's a great book for actionscripting. =)
For the basics stuff, I'm not sure. I've bought the Bible series ones before, they seem alright. But I never used books for basic stuff.

Colin Moock's - Actionscript the definitive guide 2nd edition's a great quick referance and has some good step by step tutorials.

Sounds good. I'm technically a newbie but I have some JavaScript experience and also program in PHP and MySQL which I intend to use with Flash.Originally Posted by Chas

Chas, I got the book you recommended. I had to sell some blood to afford it but it looks pretty damn good.Originally Posted by stymiee

Of the four Flash books I own, this one was my 3rd purchase and by far the best!!! It is _the_ definitive ActionScript source to me and would be to you if you have any prior experience with ECMA Script language such as JavaScript - as ActionScript is also based on the ECMA standard.Originally Posted by Chas

$55???Chas, I got the book you recommended. I had to sell some blood to afford it but it looks pretty damn good.
that's insanely expensive for a book. No computer book is worth that much because they got out of date within months. Anyway, the book I got, I paid about $30 for it at a convention.
If you want to learn actionscripting, go to a good website, always better than a book.
Macromedia actually has a good reference website, which I use like php.net's manual. Check it out here: Actionscript Dictionary
And for code & stuff, I recommend these sites:
http://www.actionscript.org
http://www.flashkit.com
