Can Google crawl comments that have not been approved, but not deleted either?

Google can see what a normal visitor of your site can see.

Thanks for the quick reply. The reason I ask is that I have a client who doesn't delete these comments very often and apart from the disadvantage of these taking up server space, I wondered if it also impacted on SEO as most of these junk comments have links. From your answer I would reckon that this isn't the case.

Hi, yes I was going to delete them anyway but was just curious. Also, my client might have been be more likely to keep these clear of the site if there was a good SEO reason for doing so.
