Apparently statistics showing that in just a few years, mobile traffic may outstrip "desktop" traffic are scaring some into action. I worry that the ignorant will pack this problem by using a webkit-only perspective though.

Yes, this could be good or bad, depending on how people respond. Certainly a topical issue, and one that's not likely to go away any time soon. It may be big news to politicians. but hardly a new issue in the web industry.
