Go grab a copy of Mozilla 1.1 from www.mozilla.org and check out the Venkman JS Debugger that comes with it.
I got both to work in older versions of the browsers but failed in my last attempt with NS6 and IE6. One trick for IE is to turn on the debugging option.

I haven't checked these links in a while. The Netscape link might still be good and there debugger was worthwhile. I assume Microsoft chnaged their site and the link is bad. Their debugger seemed only a token effort (because Netscape had one;) ).
