i've been told this cannot be done with php.
hmmm, that surprises me:rolleyes: as I thought I saw something about this, but I never read it properly and I cannot remember where I saw it either?
sry not much help there
you'd have to use a form of remote scripting and a WSH invocation to enable the parsing.
I take it you mean <u>parse</u> through a clientside htaccess directory.
Otherwise you're into the realms of SS languages (perl, mason, php, asp, cfm, cobol, c++ [with handlers]) doing it and reporting the results.
if you ARE doing it clientside, then you'd have to initiate and filesystem environment, test for file existance and name/size and then perhaps send it back to the server via a form automatically.
Obviously this is a big "no, no" but i'm sure if you're using it for unsafe / unauthorised actions then you won't be able to get your activeX controls signed and you'll be prompting users if they want to let you go through their hard disk.
There are ways around this (using embedded classid's which switch spontaneously on spawning) but i'm not really going to explain to you how to write THAT :p
haha. it's not THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT important :)
