ASP FAQ tutorial
i have been using the ASP FAQ tutorial on webmasterbase.com and my code is practically the same. however, i cannot use PWS to run my scripts but i can use an ODBC. the problem is, i don't know how.
i've read so many tutorials but when i try them, my code doesn't work.
can someone please let me know the exact changes i would need to make to the FAQ tutorial code in order to view my ASP scripts using an ODBC?
the tutorial is at:
thank you in advance.
You cant use odbc to run an asp script.
ODBC is a method for your scripts to connect to a database, it still needs something that can run the scripts, be it PWS or IIS.
why cant you use PWS?
Have you set up your virtual directorys right. Your posting is abit confusing. You should post the error your getting ;)
Ok, now I am using PWS. This is the error message:
ADODB.Recordset error '800a0bb9'
The application is using arguments that are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another.
/help.asp, line 16
and this is the code:
<% Option Explicit %>
<title>Frequently Asked Questions</title>
<body link="red" alink="red" vlink="red">
Set rsFAQ = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
rsFAQ.Open "SELECT questionID, question FROM FAQ", Application("strConn")
Do While Not rsFAQ.EOF
Response.Write "<b><a href=""answer.asp?ID=" & rsFAQ("questionID") & _
Response.Write rsFAQ("question") & "</a></b><br>-<br>"
If rsFAQ.BOF Then
Response.Write "<p>Sorry, there are no entries in the database.</p>" & vbNewLine
Is application("strConn") defined and open? It doesn't look like it from the code you posted.
Do you have a global.asa we can look at? That's often where application-scope variables are defined :)
I could never get kevins tutorial to work for some reason ... there are better ways (apparently) to do it. :)
