What is Locomotive?
I've heard of this Locomotive thingy but don't quite understand what it's for. Is it some kind of WYSIWYG editor for Ruby on Rails? Or is it just to replace the command line?
The information on their website is pretty sparse...
Can anybody help me out here?
I didn't know about Locomotive until just now when I looked it up but the brief visit to the website seems to show that its a one-click installer for Mac. But that's not all, its also a application management tool which helps by tracking which applications are running and what versions they are running on (it gives you the ability to run rails on multiple versions) which is awesome! I am going to go get that now and try it out!
It's a one-click setup environment for lighttpd, rails, and sqlite for OSX. Basically it's to make your rails development easier without lots of setup.
Ok, I see. Then there was no need to install it here... But my version also has some kind of user interface... Looks like an editor or something. I wonder what that's for...
I downloaded it and installed it and there is no editor for me... there is a management interface. This allows you to easily create new rails applications and manage them. It is useful because you can easily see which applications are running (they have a green icon next to them), which port they are on, and what version of rails.
:) Its also very easy to restart/stop/start the server.
