I'm brand spanking new to mySql and am having problems installing it. I'm trying to install it on Win2000 machine.
It seems to be installed correctly but whenever I try to run a command like
I get "error 2003:Cant connect to MySql on server 'localhost' (10061)
When I run mysqladmin ping I get a similar message.
If anyone could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it. I need to get this running for the company I work for.
I' not sure, but I think the program you are running (mysql) is a client application rather than the database server itself. The server program is called mysqld.exe, so you should run that instead.
If you have a program in your /bin/ directory called winmysqladmin.exe you should run that - it's a nice GUI interface that will start up the database server for you (at least that's how it works on windows 98).
Thanks Skunk! winmysqladmin.exe worked and off on my merry way to get it congfigured and learn more.
yes to start the server you need to use mysqld or probably better would be mysqld-opt
just type one of those in the command line, then type mysql and you are up and running
