There are issues with both. You are correct in that DHTML has cross-browser compatibility problems, so you should either go for a well-established script or learn Dynamic HTML yourself ;) However, the Bratta coolmenus and the DHTML.com menus already have the compatibility problems sorted out for you so there's one less worry.
