I have alot of competitors, but really only one is a database driven site. So it has occured to me that I could license my content out to my competitors for a monthly subscription rate.
My problem however is how to do this.
I'd want to charge monthly so I would not want to give them a copy of the database, simply create for them a user account and allow them access.
But how do I do that and maintain security? Only allowing select queries and somehow disabling straight data dumps.
If I could do this I think it'd be a good revenue source - the question is can it be done?
Maybe I could just write a script the supples the content from the DB that they can then take and parse. Who knows.
VIEWs help immensely with this. But I don't think MySQL supports them -- try looking at the GRANT / REVOKE syntax in MySQL.
