Hi everyone. I need help installing ImageMagick on my Linux web host's server.
I have read through the docs on their site (I haven't really installed a UNIX program before), but I don't know WHERE I should install ImageMagick to or what I should set all those config variables to.
Any help would be appreciated
Can you install rpm's on your server RedHat Package Management? That is the easiest way to do it. I tried compiling my own version but I gave up after a few hours.
I'm not sure. I'm supposedly on a RedHat Linux server. I have telnet access, so I could try, right?
Yes try uploading it and then doing rpm -i IMageMagickfilename
Chances are you need to have root access to do it and if you are on a shared server you probably won't be able to. Your hosting co. won't put it on, start looking for a new host, is my advice!
Okay, at the bash$ prompt, I typed in:
rpm -i ImageMagick-5.2.7-1.src.rpm
cannot write to /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
Is the error because of the fact that that isn't my directory? My home directory is /home/dcsonic
Or is the error just because I don't have root access? Thanks.
It is because you don't have root access, did you try just putting a copy of the binary found at IMagMagick's site in a folder under your root, and chmod to a+x then try executing the binary?
