I want to start a newsletter for my website, where i (as an admin) can send out a newsletter to all of my subscribers.
I would much prefer to write one myself in PHP, but i think the server would terminate the process. I would be having max 400/500 users on the list.
Karl advised me to use the servers (i am on hostrocket) built in mailing list program, but it is unsuitable. it is a discussion list, not a newsletter type list.
So therefore, i am stuck, what shall i do ?
I then found this link :
which claims it is "tested on 100 000" address.
Please advise !
We are using this free newsletter script:
It's PHP+MySQL, good if you have lots of subscribers
because you can use PHPMyAdmin to export data
(CSV format), direct table browsing, etc.
Will that be OK to run on the server though ? I mean, will the scipt get shut down half way through because it is occupying to much CPU usage ?
I actually JUST installed the MLM script myself. I have found the interface and functionality to be very good, and the author is pleasant.
I did have a problem getting the mail.cgi script to work correctly, but I resolved it (and let the author know) that the problem is with incorrectly chmoded directories.
Regardless of what script you use, you will require some cpu resources to send emails to your subscriber base. 500-600 recipients isn't too bad, and most scripts will handle this just fine using a sendmail loop or something similar.
I suggest that you contact your web host and simply ask them if it's ok. Show them the mail.cgi script (if you use the MLM program) and tell them you want to send email to 500 users once a month or whatever.
