I pretty urgently need a chat solution for my website.
I know you can get remotely hosted Java applets that link into IRC.
You can also get Java applets that you host yourself that link into IRC.
I would prefer the second option because it is obviously more flexible with no adverts, but i am aware that it sucks up bandwidth. How much would this be, with an average of this :
once a week, 10 users in the chat room for 2 or 3 hours, typing an average amount.
Thanks very much
James...I use a Java based Chatroom (remotely hosted) called Quickchat, http://www.quickchat.org. It is very flexible, low-cost and the tech support is great. I usually get reply emails within an hour or so.
You can easily change most aspects of the look itself in the applet code you embed into your HTML The free chat has a banner, but the pro version (about $150US) is banner free. It's a very good deal as there is no user limit.
You can preview the chatroom at http://www.plusoneonline.com/chat.
Hope that helps.
SitePoint also use QuickChat for the SitePoint Community Chat. :)
Check it out with the chat button at the top of this page...
